Movement Analysis
Squash is a sport
when the main movements consist of unidirectional and multidirectional lunges
and upper body rotations when striking the ball with a racquet. The player
moves around the court through sprinting and shuffling movements. The sport
relies heavily on the player’s ability to accelerate and decelerate quickly.
The energy systems used are a combination of aerobic and anaerobic, with the
former being the predominant system used. This is due to matches lasting
between 30 and 60 minutes (Lees, 2003). The anaerobic system plays significant
part in squash with point lasting an average of 20 seconds and rest period
between points lasting an average of 8 seconds (Girard et al, 2007).

INJURIES
Most of the
injuries that occur in squash are facial injuries as a result from being
contacted with the racquet of an opponent or the ball due to the small court
the game is played on. (Girard et al,
2007).
Evaluation of the
athlete
The athlete is a
female, aged 21 and is an elite, international level singles squash player. She
has good footwork speed and skills and performs very well technically on
agility drills. Her primary goal is to improve her overall strength specific to
squash as she has never undertaken a weights resistance training programme. Her
secondary goal is to improve her core stability.
